Ages I especially recommend the first three or four in the series as nice, sensible books that are a little different and yet pleasingly familiar. Aibileen becomes Mae Mobley's mother figure. I feel that the fifth year stories are just top-notch, Digby's writing is so good.

Mara has been a minor character up until this, the fifth book in the series, but More Trouble at Trebizon finally allows us to get to know her a little better. I wonder whether she will be a bit braver in her next novel, and look forward to reading it to find out. The academic theme is once more important in Fifth Year Friendships at Trebizonwhen Rebecca finds that she is going to have to make a choice between being a professional tennis player and applying to enter a top university.
One of my favourites of the series, the penpalling subplot is so great! The narrative is taken up alternately by Aibileen, Minny and Skeeter, a young white woman who, alone amongst her social circle, sees the injustice of a world in which black people are treated as second class citizens. No wonder she keeps Emmanuelle's letters safe. She could have explored her themes more deeply than she did, and she seemed rather to give up at the end, which I found a little unsatisfying.

It's a huge nostalgia kick reading these. Rebecca herself, despite her youth, is the one who seems sensible and mature in this book. Also, it's lovely to see everyone focusing on their school work so much you can tell I'm a teacher and there's a great sense of camaraderie coming from so many books spent with the One of my favourites of the series, the penpalling subplot is so great!

I think I probably enjoyed these more than the book itself! Mara has been a minor character up until this, the fifth book in the series, but More Trouble at Trebizon finally allows us Secret letters at Trebizon book get to know her a little better.
Unfortunately, the new maths teacher, Mr Maxwell is young, good-looking and conceives a strange liking for unpopular Roberta Jones, spending all his time coaching her and leaving Rebecca to struggle. Her burgeoning relationship with Cartwright lends sweetness to the story that will appeal to young romantics.
Because let me tell you: it would be pretty freaking outstanding if this unsolved mystery actually became THE mystery that Dora and Peter have to solve together. You can also share on social media using the hashtag secretlettersproject.

Wrought with energy and wit, this chronicle of Ernest's metamorphosis from sheltered na f into vibrant young man is not to be missed. I really enjoyed reading about Dora and her quick wit and sharp attention to detail, and I very much appreciated her gumption.
Ages I don't think I can describe the book's setting better than the blurb of the Penguin edition: a world "where black maids raise white children, but aren't trusted not to steal the silver.
I still do and Trebizon was one of my favourites because it was set in the present day so I could actually imagine going to school there myself! I never managed to collect all the Trebizon books when I was young so I was thrilled to see that Fidra books have republished two of the later ones.
Simple, but powerful. The solution to the mystery was far-fetched but one of my hobbies is penpalling and I absolutely loved everything that had to do with this.
